Can't start Foundationservice Error with EPMregistry?

Hi all ,

I have recently install EPM 11.1 in linux . it starts well at first. but it gets error while i start today.

start-FoundationServices0-out.log

I also check the all server status in weblogic , Foundation service displays running.

while i access to shared service web site ,it get 404 error.

Chelsea

1.-

Re-run config tool on that server and re-configure the Shared Services database. When prompted select reuse existing tables.

2.-
I've has a similar problem recently, finally traced it back to a problem (my error) with the configuration. Was doing individual databases (SQL Server) for each app, and must have got one wrong which left the system pointing to an incorrect database for shared services. This can be fixed by editing the xml file that stores the database information.

For EMPregistry the file is located at:
\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\EPMSystem\config\jdbc
called EPMSystemRegistry-jdbc.xml

Line 5 reads
jdbc:weblogic:sqlserver://:1433;databaseName=;loadLibraryPath=\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\server\lib

change , and (I inserted these for clarity - the original has the actual names) to suit your installation.

Naturally, restart services afterwards.

Hope this helps someone else.

3.-
Hi All,

Found this thread when looking at a similar problem myself. In our system, for some reason, one of our servers had the shared services database set to the R&A database.

We changed it to HYPHSS as suggested but it's not so easy if your passwords are different.

Anyway, after some searching I found the link http://weblogicserver.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-encrypt-clear-text-password-with.html

To get it running for EPM components, use the following command:

java -Dweblogic.RootDirectory="/user_projects/domains/EPMSystem" -cp "/wlserver_10.3/server/lib/weblogic.jar" weblogic.security.Encrypt YOURPASSWORD

Replace with the right directory and YOURPASSWORD with the database password. It will return an AES string which you can paste into the EPMSystemRegistry-jdbc.xml file.

Thanks to posters here getting me started in the right direction though!

The WebLogic Admin Server 11g just hangs upon startup

Problem:

Due to our disk space having filled up, I shutdown the Oracle WebLogic AdminServer 11g (11.1.1.3), cleared some logs, and restarted it.

However, when I start it up, it just stops at the entry below. No movement in the log whatsoever, and nothing is happening on the server.

Solution:

I worked an Oracle Support analyst (thanks Vijay!) and we reset some passwords and were able to bring up the server again. I am somewhat convinced that this was related to our disk being full.

This is what we proceeded doing:

1. Shutdown the Admin Server

2. Remove the "cache", "date", and "tmp" folders from the server AdminServer location
rm -rf /u01/app/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains/soa_domain/servers/AdminServer/cache
rm -rf /u01/app/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains/soa_domain/servers/AdminServer/data
rm -rf /u01/app/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains/soa_domain/servers/AdminServer/tmp
This did not solve our problem.

3. Reset the weblogic password by running this command:
java weblogic.security.utils.AdminAccount weblogic welcome1 .
... and resetting the password in:
./servers/AdminServer/security/boot.properties
This partially resolved the problem.

4. We noticed that the "system-jazn-data.xml" file was zero bytes in size:
ll /u01/app/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains/soa_domain/config/fmwconfig
-rw-r----- 1 oracle ldba      0 Dec 21 20:49 system-jazn-data.xml
I copied the file from a separate server, and the Admin Server now started up.

The question remains... why was the "system-jazn-data.xml" file zero bytes?

Most likely when the disk was full, some process was probably trying to save to it but was unable to, thus blanking out the file. This is my only explanation for this.

Also, since the "system-jazn-data.xml" file that I copied over was not exactly identical, I had to recreate some user accounts.

Applicable Versions:
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 11g (10.3.3)
  • Oracle SOA Suite 11g (11.1.1.3)

SQL> SELECT tablespace_name FROM dba_tablespaces;

En el caso de ser un usuario que no tiene privilegios de administrador, podemos ejecutar la siguiente consulta:

SQL> SELECT tablespace_name FROM user_tablespaces;

Como se puede observar, únicamente estamos obteniendo el nombre de los tablespaces, pero podemos obtener más información de ellos usando el operador *, por ejemplo:

SQL> SELECT * FROM dba_tablespaces;

o

SQL> SELECT * FROM user_tablespaces;

Para ver el espacio libre que queda en un tablespace tenemos que mirar en la tabla dba_free_space

SELECT tablespace_name,
ROUND(sum(bytes)/1024/1024,0)
FROM dba_free_space
WHERE tablespace_name NOT LIKE 'TEMP%'
GROUP BY tablespace_name;

Con esta consulta obentemos el nombre del tablespace y el espacio en Megas libre

Para ver el espacio total en un tablespace tenemos que mirar en la tabla dba_data_files

SELECT tablespace_name,
round(sum(BYTES/1024/1024),0)
FROM dba_data_files b
WHERE tablespace_name NOT LIKE 'TEMP%'
GROUP BY b.tablespace_name;

Con esta consulta obentemos el nombre del tablespace y el espacio total en Megas que puede llegar a tener.

Oracle EPM 11.1.2 Thoughts

Oracle EPM 11.1.2 Thoughts

Well, I have just finished my first installation of Oracle EMPA 11.1.2 and I wanted to take some time to share my thoughts on the installation and configuration process.  Let me start by saying that this isn't the easiest or most intuitive process in the world.  The documentation is there, the readme's are pretty good, but the support matrix has become a bit more of a riddle then it used to be and there are a number of hidden 'gotchas' within the install (do I use Oracle DB 11.1.6 or 11.1.7, does it really matter, what about ODAC...in fact what is ODAC?).
Let me begin with saying that those who use the online documentation library should be wary (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/nav/portal_1.htm).  When I was trying to use those guides, I kept seeing items replaced by random ASCII characters and the like...I'd wait till next month or so when they should get updates.  In the meantime you can download the Doc Library with the code from Oracle e-delivery, just be prepared for a lot.
Moving on from the documents, I'd say the install really went fairly well.  I'm not saying it's perfect, but for a new(ish) release it is pretty good.  I'm not planning on going through a 'how to' here, that's what experience and the install guides are for.  I would like to share some brief observations though:
  • Be careful with the Oracle DB version.  I personally had issues making 10g work.  The issue occurred with making EPMA happy with the ODAC connector required for that product.  When I installed the 11g ODAC with an 11g instance, it worked no problem.
  • Be prepared to send a LOT of time on OHS configuration.  If I had one complaint about this code, this is it.  I've seen this thing configure for well over 30 minutes for a fairly-simple 4 server environment.  Since this is largely Apache HTTP under the covers, I can't guess what is going on here.  So, I recommend installing everything, configuring the other pieces, then running OHS configuration.  Of course, the issue with that in the real world is that you usually want to know if Shared Services, Workspace, and friends work before installing Essbase, etc.
  • When configuring OHS, make sure the DNS entries are rock solid.  This may not happen much in a non-lab environment, but OHS would keep crashing when a server component with an unknown name was registered to Shared Services and you'd run the tool.  Was this logged...sure, but not where you'd expect it.  It was in a registry.log (probably since it was reading the EPM registry on the Shared Services server) and not in the configtool.log.
  • During download there is an innocuous looking component called 'Additional Components'.  Make sure you download it and place it with your foundation pieces...that's where they stashed OHS.
  • Beware the uninstaller if you make a mistake.  I had two different server instances fail to uninstall after sitting at the 'initializing' stage for over an hour.  if you are using VM, I recommend some Snapshots.
  • Essbase now needs to install OHS and WebLogic (in fact pretty much every server will have one, if not both, of these components).  In this case it would appear that configuration isn't necessary, but OHS is present for logging purposes.
  • It's possible that re-running the 'Web Server' configuration may push the updates through.  I encountered an issue after installing Financial Reporting and Web Analysis.  I was able to run a Web Preview of a report through the Financial Reporting Studio, but I could not 'see' them in Workspace (I lacked an 'explore' option as well).  A restart of the services did not resolve this for me, but a restart of the server did (yes, this was a Windows install).
  • I still don't like this installer for 11.x.  I'm not convinced I want to 'lug' around that much software, server-to-server and I just don't trust installations across a LAN/WAN.
  • I also don't subscribe to the notion that you can install all this in one DB/schema.  I personally think Oracle tuning (sometimes necessary for HFM/FDM) and restoration of individual components would both be problematic.  In my install each product was given its own Tablespace and Schema.
OK, that's about it.  I hope you can gain a little something from my brief observations of the install.  I think it could be better (what couldn't be?) but it was a fairly pleasant experience compared to some versions.  I will state that before installing this onsite at a client, I'd want to 'prep' them for some of the wait times in the install, ect.  I would also recommend that most clients not install this one on their own.  There is simply a LOT more complexity here then even System 9 possessed and it took a good deal of old Hyperion acumen to get through it in a short time window.  I look forward to any questions or comments you might have.

### 11.2.0.1.0

1) Index maintenance activity will be performed when impdp import is in progress, so disable the primary key constraints in the tables, then undo generation will be less and import will be successful.

2) In case if import is still failling after disabling primary constraints then try to add some more space to UNDO tablespace.

For me 1st solution worked.

10 items to have ready for your EPM implementation

In order to make the most of you and your implementation teams’ time, in preparation for your new EPM System installation here is a quick list of the most common items, we have found are commonly overlooked.  This is specific to a Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 EPM 11.1.2.2 installation:
  1. Download ALL 7 of the EPM System packages, from the Oracle E-Delivery cloud (http://edelivery.oracle.com), for your specific operating system.  Other products, such as ODI, DRM and EAL, have standalone installers that require separate download and installation
  2. Download the EPM System Client Installers package for 32 and/or 64 bit operating systems, depending on the mix of bitness in your user community’s operations systems.  These are standalone installers for a majority of the EPM products that have ‘thick clients’.  Note that FDM Workbench and IR Workbench still require you to use the main EPM System installer.  In these cases you will need to ensure you have the 32 and/or 64 bit complete EPM System packages downloaded.
  3. Create a domain account and assign that account as part of the Administrators group on all servers in your environment(s)
  4. Synchronize Time across all servers in the environment
  5. Disable UAC
  6. Disable Windows DEP
  7. Enable group policy “Do not forcefully unload the user registry at user logoff”
  8. Assign the local policies – Act as part of the operating system, Bypass traverse checking, Logon as a batch job, and Logon as a service
  9. Install the Application Server and IIS Web Server roles on all servers that will host the following products:  FDM, EPMA, DRM and HFM.  If you choose to integrate DRM with Hyperion Shared Services for external authentication purposes, you must install IIS on the Shared Services server and lay down the DRM installation on that server.  When you install IIS, be sure to include the Management Tools and IIS 6 Management Compatibility.  Most importantly be sure to enable ASP.net.
  10. If you plan to use Oracle database as your RDBMS, be sure to install the full Administrator Oracle client on the machines that will host the following products: FDM, EPMA, and HFM.  If you are installing on a 64 bit operating system (and we hope you are), use the 64 bit Oracle client.  If you are installing FDM on a 64 bit operating system, you must install the 32 bit Oracle client as FDM does not support the 64 bit client.  If you plan to host EPMA and/or HFM on the same server(s) with FDM, you must install BOTH the 32 bit and 64 bit Oracle clients.  Copy your tnsnames.ora file to the ..\network\admin folder under your Oracle client(s) directory.
Following these simple steps will save you time, frustration, and most of all money!  Make life easier on yourself and your implementer, be proactive and you should have a smooth implementation!
